What more a coach could do for his team?

Written by F Mirza on November 24th, 2007   (226 views)

I really feel pity, sympathy and commiseration for the good ole Henry, our beloved and naïve coach Geoff Lawson. Would you believe he still thinks that Pakistan team can beat India and other teams of the world comprehensively without match fixing?

He has said to various Indian newspapers in separate interviews that he takes Pakistan as the best team in the world due to their talent, passion and the firepower. Now that’s the biggest lie I have heard this year. May be Henry is trying to earn his staggering salary and perks due to these statements, as there is no chance of return on investment on him and the team in any other way.

Geoff has bemused that Pakistani bowlers are the best and far much better than the likes of Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan. He has also said Shoaib Malik is the best thing which has happened to Pakistan in years. This statement of his brings me creeps from unknown hells. To add insult to injuries, Geoff also added somewhat proudly (but it should be read as ruefully) that under the professional and guided eye of Dr. Nasim Ashraf, Pakistani team is all set to achieve glories upon glories.

Geoff also said that he has firm faith in the batting of Younus Khan, and he thinks that one day (when he grows up?), Younus will be the spine of the batting. I was waiting to hear from him that Yousuf was the best runner between the wickets, when Henry admitted that though Yousuf wasn’t the best runner on the pitch, but he makes up for it while batting. Henry also praised Kamran Akmal to the sky, and forgot to mention the gaping holes in his hands.

What more a coach could do for his team?
