Suicide bombing in Karachi have literally shaken and shocked the world. Where it has disrupted the normal proceedings of life in the country, it has also affected other areas of life. Sports are no different. Just after the blasts, South African Cricket Team, which is present in Lahore for quite a time, and is carrying on with the One Day series, showed its grave and pertinent reservations.
There was lots of talk about the security concern of South African even before the start of this tour. Many teams have already declined to come to Pakistan amidst such situation. Even, the hockey championship had to transfer to Malaysia from Pakistan, after the refusal of Australia, Korea and other nations. That is the loss to the game and to the nation. Security concerns cannot be ignored at all, but the abandon of tour only make the people gloomy, and that is exactly what the terrorists want.
After much discussions and convincing of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), South African Board has shown their consent to carry on with the tour, though still the last match at Karachi is expected to be transferred somewhere else, which would be a huge disappointment for the citizens of Karachi, who badly need a diversion for a respite. South African Manager has also said though South African Board is not that worried about such incidents, but the players are very disturbed, but they have also agreed to play the rest of the matches.
Chairman PCB has also said that he has personally talked with the South African Board and the players, and they are ready to play further. He said that such evil acts of terrorism only give the bad name to the country, and Pakistan is hardly already getting any international matches, and such acts only harm the nation. He said that they have provided VIP security to the guest team, and will increase it manifold now.More on:Karachi, Pakistan, South Africa, South Africa in Pakistan 2007
