Shabbir will have to prove form, fitness

Medium pacer Shabbir Ahmed will not be an automatic choice for a place in the Pakistan team even if his bowling action is cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), an official said on Wednesday.

The official said Shabbir would have to play a series of domestic games to prove his form and fitness before making a return to the Pakistani squad.

Shabbir was banned for a year by the ICC after being reported over suspect action on two occasions in 2005. His ban ends on December 18.

The lanky bowler is expected to be cleared by the ICC next month following reports that biomechanics experts have given his bowling action an all-clear report.

Shabbir underwent tests at the University of Western Australia recently and according to the PCB experts agree his bowling action is okay now.

Pakistan are eager to have Shabbir back in their side following doping bans against their strike bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.
