Meetings of national senior and junior cricket selection committees will be held here at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Saturday for selection of the probables for the senior teamâ€™s forthcoming tour to England and Pakistan A teamâ€™s trip to Australia. Chief selector Wasim Bari said on Friday prior to his departure for Lahore that the meeting would start in the morning and continue till the evening to deliberate, discuss and finalise the squad.
He said the senior selectors Iqbal Qasim and Ehteshamuddin, junior selectors Abdul Raquib and Maazullah Khan will attend the meeting. Bari said they are planning to select a pool of 25 to 26 players for senior trimming and conditioning camp. He said besides senior camp members, some Pakistan A team members will also be selected for the training camp.
He said the dates for the first phase of the training camp for both seniors and Pakistan A will also be finalised after meeting with Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M Khan. After finalising the names of the probables the selection committee will submit its list to the PCB which will announce the names to the media, he added.
He said only squad named for England tour would be attending the second phase of the training camp. Pakistan (seniors) and Pakistan A will also have training sessions early next month with former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes, who has been appointed Pakistanâ€™s fielding consultant for a short stint. Pakistan team will undertake a 72-day tour to England to play four Tests and five One-day Internationals starting from July 1. Pakistan A will tour Australia from July 5 to 28 to appear in eight games being held in Darwin and Cairns. Besides Pakistan A second-string teams of hosts Australia, India and New Zealand will be taking part in the four-team series. Besides taking part in Twenty20 and one-day matches, Pakistan A will also play four-day games against Australia and New Zealand.
