Room 15 for Geoff

After much ado, Pakistan Cricket Board has at last appointed a coach for the young and fledgling team. After the sad and tragic death of Bob Woolmer, Pakistan team got tied up in numerous problems ranging from match fixing scandals to doping scandals, from poor performances to the ouster of their captain.

After much discussions, interviews, hassles, criticism, ponderance PCB decided to appoint Geoff Lawson, which seems a good decision. From the initial speculation of the pakistani former player as a national coach to the appointment foreign coach, every thing has been thought over and applied, perhaps wisely.

Some are terming his appointment as the fullfilment of the Pakistani players, who wanted a not-so-stern coach, and wanted to keep their “freedom” intact. Mellow by nature, meek and docile Geoff Lawson was always the first priority of the players. Though board was more inclined towards Dave Whatmore, but players and their lobbyists won atlast, and we have now Lawson as their coach.

Geoff Lawson, the now Pakistani coach, will reach Pakistan on 20th August. He will also work in the National Cricket Academy according to the contract. He has been alloted room 15 on the first floor of the National Cricket Academy. Next to his room is the room of Shoaib Malik. The room of the former coach is being utilized by now Dr. Naseem Ashraf, who will sit there and shed a tear or two in the memory of Bob.

The decoration and designing work for the room of our coach is being finalized very rapidly. A first-rate chef has also been hired from a five star hotel to appease the stomach of Geoff Lawson. Geoff would also be provided a very tight security round the clock. Geoff is also supposed to train and groom the young talent. He will also try to monitor the first class matches to talent hunt.

Things are looking pretty bright in the near future for the team, as the board is taking right decisions. The focus of PCB upon the discipline and professionalism will also be facilitated by the Geoff’s approach. Team should also support the board’s and coach’s effort. We have to rise again.
