ICL: Indian Cricket League

Razzaq performs usefully on debut

razzaqPakistan’s discarded all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who later announced his retirement from international cricket and made known his intention to join the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL), bowled usefully on his debut for Worcestershire in an English County Championship cricket match against Kent, here at the St Lawrence Ground on Friday.

Rain had forced no play on the first three days of the four-day match.

When Kent batted, after being put in, on the final day yesterday, they reached 293 for three before skipper Robert Key applied closure at the tea interval.

Opener Key himself hit 125 runs off 149 balls with 16 fours and a six.

With South Africa Martin van Jaarsveld, who remained unbeaten at 122 off 170 balls with 10 fours and six sixes, his second-wicket produced 190 runs.

Razzaq bowled 10 overs while conceding 37 runs but didn’t take a wicket.

The medium-pacer has joined Worcestershire on a short-term contract at the fag end of the season.

Later, as the match ended in a draw, Razzaq scored an unbeaten 22 in his team’s total of 110-3 while facing 43 balls and hitting three fours, after having been sent in to bat at number three.

In 2002 and 2003, Razzaq had played for Middlesex in the English County Championship with a fair bit of success, his contributions including an unbeaten double-hundred.
