Players offered cash to attend receptions

Pakistan cricket team’s members, who tour England from late June, have been offered up to 10,000 pounds sterling for attending some receptions and dinners being organised on the tour.

A Pakistan team member said the players had given their consent to a programme sent to them by their cricket board in advance. “While some of the programmes they’ve to attend are official in nature, some are being held to help out some charities. But some private parties are organising dinners and reception to participate in which the players will be paid a total fee of up to 10,000 pounds per event,” he said.

Pakistan will tour England from June 29 and plays four Tests, five One-day Internationals and a couple of side matches till the end of the tour on September 10. It is after a long time that Pakistan is playing a four-Test series against any country having been reduced to playing two or three Test series since 1992.

In some cases Pakistanis residing in the United Kingdom had already shown so much interest in the tour that they were offering special cash prizes for outstanding individual performances.
