Where there is South Africa there is at least the allegations of match fixing, if not the match fixing. South Africa team is the leading team in world cricket, which remains in the nefarious halo of match fixing allegations all the time, and their history is littered with these. Pakistani team has also got a rich history in this regard, and when they both play against each other, fingers get lifted at the end.
They way Pakistan lost the fifth and last One Day International match in Lahore on 29th October was bizarre. Pakistan needed just 35 runs, and their six players were left, but they only managed to make 20 runs, and the dismissals were also fishy and incomprehensible. Spectators in the stadium and outside were just clueless and speechless over this defeat. Pakistan lost the almost winning series, and once again South Africa thrashed them at home.
It has been resoundingly said that the defeat in the last match was the tradeoff. It was a give way to South Africa, after their “kind” consent to play in Pakistan after the Karachi blasts, which killed over 150 people some days back upon the arrival of Pakistan’s former self-exiled Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Match was then shifted over to Lahore over the request of South Africa. It was said that South Africa team management and team had decided to leave Pakistan without playing the last ODI due to their security concerns, and then Pakistan gave them the last match away as a reward.
Personally I don’t think so that the rumors of match fixing are that match true. Its not that I consider the players of the team angels and ultra honest, its because they are really incapable and incompetent. Without any openers, and without any formidable middle order, and without any wicket keeper, and without any stingy fast bowlers, and without any spin wizard, and without any fielding caliber, and without any passion and yearning to win, who in the hell would try to fix the match with Pakistani team?More on:Benazir Bhutto, Graeme Smith, Karachi, Lahore, Pakistan, Shoaib Malik, South Africa, South Africa in Pakistan 2007
