Pakistan board to confirm skipper today


The captain of the Pakistan cricket team for the next full year will be appointed today (Friday) at the first Governing Board meeting.

This was stated by Chairman PCB, Dr Nasim Ashraf, while talking to newsmen after the signing ceremony of the domestic cricket season with ABN-AMRO at a local hotel on Thursday.

“The PCB has a policy to appoint the captain under a yearly based formula and now we will again be appointing a captain for next year tomorrow with the consent of the governing board which will also approve it.”

Dr Nasim Ashraf said the objective of appointing captain for a short term (one year) aims at getting the best leadership abilities and to evolve a system of checks and balance. Nasim Ashraf said Pakistan Premier League (PPL) will be launched next year and it will have a format of having four foreign players in each team on the pattern of the English soccer league.

“Altogether six teams, a mixture of local and international players, will be featuring in the event which we intend to stage in a trend setting manner,” he asserted.PCB Chairman said it would be made mandatory to include four local U21 players in the teams giving an ample chance to young players to exploit their talent. PCB Chief and Chief Executive Officer ABN AMRO, Naved A Khan, signed a sponsorship deal under which the bank will provide Rs 22 million for sponsoring domestic season.
