JANE McGrath, wife of Australian pacer Glenn McGrath, faces another battle with cancer, a second recurrence being confirmed recently.
Mrs McGrath, who has had treatment for breast and hip cancer several times in nine years, will have radiotherapy treatment again early next week, according to a statement issued on the couple’s behalf by Cricket Australia.
Speculation surrounding the health of Mrs McGrath, 39, arose yesterday after her husband pulled out of Australia’s one-day match against South Africa in Melbourne only two hours before the game, citing only “personal reasons”.
McGrath rushed home to Sydney and was replaced in the side by Brett Lee in a late reshuffle.
The statement said the McGraths were optimistic as they approached another battle with the disease.
“As with her previous episodes, both Jane and Glenn are extremely positive that the treatment will be successful, and have requested that during this time all parties respect their privacy,” the statement said.
Mrs McGrath, an English-born former flight attendant who met McGrath in Hong Kong in 1995, had a mastectomy in 1997, having discovered a lump in her left breast, which proved cancerous.
