Indian Cricket Leagure is sure-fire to become an expensive graveyard for the retired cricketers. Glenn McGrath wished to play in the escape Indian Cricket League, even though confirmed high-profile signing is inadequate. The former West Indian captain Brian Lara is the only prominent contemporary player to confirm he has joined the ICL, which is proposing to run a Twenty20 series in October, 2007 in straight opposition to a one-day series between India and Australia.
Former Test team-mate Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, who together retire from Test and one-day cricket earlier this year, has been linked with the Indian Cricket League, but negotiations continue and so far neither of them has signed on. Two months after he bowed out of international cricket by taking a record 26 wickets at the World cup. 37 year old McGrath said short-term Twenty20 tournament would be ideal to give him his ‘fix’ of cricket without demanding him. Obviously, you can make a little bit of money. Probably a month of cricket, gives me that fix of playing again.
BCCI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is strong-minded to ensure the failure of the rebel ICL, which is bankrolled by the country’s largest listed media house, Zee Telefilms.
The BCCI has not only refused to let out stadia for the ICL’s inaugural Twenty20 competition, but has also threatened to bar rebel players from representing India in official tournaments.
In spite of a possible dabble with the ICL, McGrath was satisfied he had made the correct decision to quit top-level cricket. McGrath think that he played as long as he could mentally. Physically the body feels great, but the mental side of it is another thing.
Previously, watching other teams playing made him want to get out there. Now he thinks that he is glad that he is not out there. For McGrath, it is been the right decision, and he had time to get used to it.More on:Australia, Glenn McGrath, icl, India, shane warne
