If there is one team in world cup who has got some real potential to traumatize any test-playing nation, it is Kenya. Kenya has proved this maxim in 1996 world cup, when they defeated West Indies and then in 2003 world cup when they reached to the semi-finals of world cup after shooting down Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe plus New Zealand by walk over.

Kenyan team is the by-product of long-forgotten East-African team, which participated in 1976 world cup. Kenya was even playing before that when they confronted India in 1967. There have been many ups and downs in Kenyan cricket team, but all in all they have managed to progress well and stands a good chance for promising future in world cricket.

International Cricket Council granted Kenya One Day International status soon after 1996 world cup when they thrashed West Indies by 73 runs in a riveting game. For Kenya there was nothing to write home about in 1999 world cup, when they didn’t win even a single show-down. To carry on their habit, in October 2001, they tormented India by beating them with the margin of 70 runs. The real crunch came in 2003 world cup when Kenya sliced and diced three test playing nations.

Every Kenyan player is charged-up and electrified. Kenya has got some real experience in the form of players like Steve Tikolo,Thomas Odoyo,Ravindu Shah,Collins Obuya and Karim. Steve Tikolo, the skipper of Kenyan team has got some experience in his bag. He has played over 90 ODIs with a good average. He has got a hang of captaincy and have seen Kenya through many difficult situations especially at associate cricket level. He will be the one of those players who will be the focus of attention for Kenyan fans. Since 1996, when Steve made his debut, he has improved a lot and is a formidable customer.

Steve Tikolo has got a shrewd and aggressive deputy like Thomas Odoyo, who is some player. He has always remained the most effective catalyst in all the upsets Kenya has pulled. He also started his debut in 1996 at the age of 17 and never looked back, not even in the back mirror. With his superb and solid middle order batting, well-supported by his medium yet stingy bowling, he has got lot of ammo to offer. When Ravindu Shah opens the inning for Kenya, it normally stays open. He is one of stylish openers in whole continent of Africa. Though very recently, he seems to have lost his chic touch, he has done fantastically in the past for Kenya and will be preparing hard for the forthcoming mega event. The one player who has done miracles in all facets of game is Collins Obuya. He is a utility batsman, quality leg spinner and mercurial fielder. Other stars in Kenyan team include:Peter Ongondo,Nehemiah Odhiambo,Morris Ouma,Malhar Patel,Hiren Varaiya,David Obuya (Wk),Rajesh Bhudia,Jimmy Kamande and Tony Suji.
