Ireland confirm India-South Africa ODIs

Irish Cricket Union confirmed three-match One-day International (ODI) series between India and South Africa, at Stormont, will take place as planned following Nimbus’s move to televise matches.

After talks they decided playing opportunities for Ireland — matches against both sides — and exposure for game made the event worthwhile proceeding with. There were doubts on staging of games after termination of contract between BCCI and Zee TV. However, ICU has now been told by BCCI that Nimbus stepped in to broadcast series.

ICU met to discuss events of past few days, to determine if the event was still commercially viable, given they were forced to take ticket sales off-line in period of uncertainty. The fact that crucial deadlines were missed for both weekly and monthly publications was taken into consideration, particularly with games only three weeks away.

“I would ask Irish cricket community, really support these games, and get behind this initiative,” said Warren Deutrom, ICU chief executive. “Some of the greatest players will play. It’s wonderful opportunity for fans in Ireland, and beyond, to see them in action.” Ireland’s two matches take place on June 23-24 with three South Africa-India matches on June 26, 29 and July 1.
