Inzamam rejoins team after attending ailing father

Pakistan’s regular captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who had rushed to Lahore from Karachi to attend his ailing father, has rejoined the team in Peshawar and is expected to play in the first one-day international against India Monday.

Pakistan team manager Muhammad Ahmed said here Saturday that Inzamam rejoined the team Friday night after his father’s condition showed improvement.

‘Inzamam rejoined the team last (Friday) night after his father, who had undergone a heart bypass surgery in Lahore, showed improvement,’ Ahmed told IANS.

‘His father’s condition become serious after it was suspected that he had some cerebral complications following the bypass surgery. But now he is much better, which has enabled Inzamam to return to the squad,’ he said.

The burly batsman, who missed Pakistan’s 341-run win over India in the third and final Test in Karachi Wednesday due to a back problem, had rushed to Lahore immediately after the match was over.

‘Inzamam was so tense on hearing his father’s condition that he had left for the airport in his slippers immediately after the match,’ said another official with the team.
