High Commission favours Aussies tour

The Australian High Commission in Pakistan has sent a favourable report to its government regarding Australia’s scheduled cricket tour in March in spite of the current wave of bombings across the country.

This correspondent has learnt through reliable sources that the High Commission in Islamabad has told Australia Department of Foreign Affairs that there is no direct threat to Aussie cricketers in Pakistan.

Cricket Australia had sought the help of its government before taking a final decision on whether to send their team to Pakistan to play three Tests, five one-dayers and a Twenty20 International during March-April this year.

“The report sent to Australia by their High Commission in Islamabad is quite a positive one,” a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.

Australia tour of Pakistan is under a cloud because of security concerns but the PCB remains hopeful that the world champions will come here for their first series in almost a decade.

Cricket Australia is scheduled to send a team of security experts to Pakistan after the general elections pencilled in for February 18 before taking a decision regarding the tour. —KH
