Young all-rounder Fawad Alam is ready for Test cricket, Pakistan Cricket Academy team manager Haroon Rasheed said here on Friday.

The former Test batsman told Pakistani reporters that Fawad has shown exceptional talent and temperament during the ongoing tour of Africa and can graduate to the national Test squad whenever needed.

Fawad has been the biggest success story of this tour so far,’ Haroon said. ‘He has the skills, the temperament and knows what to do under difficult circumstances. As far as I’m concerned, he (Fawad) is fully ready to play Test cricket for Pakistan,’ he added.

The 22-year-old Fawad made his One-day International debut last May against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. Since then he has played ten ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals.

He has been in great form on the tour of Africa and as vice-captain of the Pakistan Academy team, he has done well both as a batsmen and spinner. Fawad made a triple century in the Academy’s big win in a four-day game in Mombasa earlier this week and then also played the lead role in his team’s win in the opening one-dayer against Kenya on Wednesday.

Fawad, son of Pakistan’s noted first-class cricketer Tariq Alam, made his first-class debut at the age of 17. He was duly picked to represent Pakistan at the Under-19 World Cup based on his performances with Pakistan Customs and Karachi on the domestic circuit.

Fawad proved himself as a talented cricketer at an early age and now he has proved on this tour that he is ready to join the big boys in Tests, said Haroon.
