England coaching role interested Moody

moodyTom Moody has revealed he would have been interested in discussing the England coaching role had the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) contacted him.

Moody took Sri Lanka to Saturday’s World Cup final, but the ECB reacted swiftly after Duncan Fletcher resigned to install Peter Moores as successor.

Moody told BBC Radio: “The England job is one of the few big jobs in cricket. I am sure a number of international coaches would have been interested, but England decided to move quickly.” He continued: “I was never contacted by England, but I was not exactly sitting by the phone waiting for a call. My focus was always on Sri Lanka during the World Cup.

“It was important to stay professional for them — my future had nothing to do with this tournament.”

Moody said he understood why the ECB had appointed Moores without waiting for the World Cup to end.

“England have decided to move quickly and efficiently. They’ve got a very good man in power now in Peter Moores, I’ve got a lot of respect for him and I am sure he will do a very good job,” he added.

Moody now plans talks with Sri Lanka officials before deciding his future plans, but he has been linked with a return home to coach the Western Australia state side.
