Donald’s consultancy role extended

Allan Donald’s consultancy role with England, originally contracted to just five weeks, has been extended until the end of the Twenty20 World Championship in September.

Donald’s tenure was due to finish at the end of England’s one-day series against West Indies, but he will continue to help Kevin Shine, their full-time fast bowling coach for the second half of England’s summer against India.

“I’ve greatly enjoyed my time working with the England fast bowlers and am delighted to be staying on in the role until September,” Donald said. “We have an exciting crop of bowlers in the England ranks and I’m looking forward to continue working with them for the remainder of the summer and the first tour of the winter.

“Both Kevin Shine and Peter Moores have provided excellent guidance in working with the ECB Fast Bowling Programme,” he added, “and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my association in a consultancy capacity.”

Donald, 40, who has over 200 Test and one-day caps to his name, has only been part of the England set-up for a few weeks but his impact has already been felt by England’s young bowlers. Stuart Broad, whose 3 for 20 helped England beat West Indies in the opening one-dayer at Lord’s on Sunday, sung Donald’s praises and has been impressed with his attention to detail, while many feel that his presence has also helped rectify Liam Plunkett’s early-season problems in delivering no-balls and wides.

England’s second one-dayer against West Indies takes place at Edgbaston tomorrow.
