Dhoni, Pathan keep second spots in ICC rankings

India’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Irfan Pathan remained in second places of batting and bowling ranking charts announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) here Monday.

But Indian captain Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh slipped by one place each to be 10th and 11th respectively in the latest official list headed by Australia’s Adam Gilchrist with 809 points.

The top eight batsmen kept their places in the list, with Dhoni just three points behind Gilchrist. Dravid, the only other Indian in top 10, tripped to 10th with 729 points. Yuvraj went out of the top-10 bracket and has 722 points.

Among the bowlers, there was no change in the top-10 places with pacer Pathan (765) and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh (690) being the two Indians in that cohort.

South African fast bowler Shaun Pollock remained at the top of the bowling chart with 858 points.

Pollock also topped the all-rounders’ list with 462 points, with Pathan placed third (413 points). England’s Andrew Flintoff was second with 432 points.

India maintained third position in the ICC ODI Championship table with 116 rating points, while Australia remained at the top with 132.

West Indies’ 5-0 series win over Zimbabwe has given them two rating points. Although that has not been enough to lift them up the table, it has reduced the gap to seventh-placed England to 12 points.

Brian Lara’s West Indies have a chance to close that gap even further when they begin a five-match one-day series with India in Jamaica Thursday.

Zimbabwe have dropped two rating points after the defeat and remained ninth in the table, although still well ahead of Bangladesh and Kenya who are below them.
