Delighted Asif keen to do well in England

Pakistan’s new pace sensation Mohammad Asif has admitted he had still not reconciled to the amazing success he was enjoying at the Test level as the team’s main strike bowler.

“To be honest the success Allah The All Mighty has given me in the last few matches it has still not sunk in and seems like a dream. I still can’t believe that the last three Tests have gone so well for me, specially when I think that in my debut Test in Australia I hadn’t get a wicket,” he said.

Asif ended with 17 wickets in the two Tests in Colombo and Kandy against Sri Lanka and has now taken 24 in his last three Tests. He won the man of the match and series awards on Wednesday.

“I really can’t pinpoint one particular area of improvement due to which I have got so much success. I’ve just been concentrating on strengthening my body and concentrating on line and length and the hard work has paid off.”

Asif, who finished with 11-71 in the second Test, felt he had bowled better in the second innings of the match when he finished with 5-27, saying, “It was a good pitch to bowl on and I particularly enjoyed both the times I got Thilan Samaraweera bowled. Because on both occasions he left the ball and didn’t read its movement off the seam. That was very satisfying for me.”

Asif said he was confident his stint with Leicestershire from later this month would help him develop into a better bowler and prepare for the coming England tour.

“There is talk about how good the English conditions are for seam bowlers but I think on any pitch you’ve to work hard and bowl sensibly. I’m keen to do well in England,” he expressed.

Asif added that during the time he got off between matches he was trying to spend maximum time in the gymnasium and swimming pool to develop his muscles. “For a fast bowler it’s very important to generate pace and I’m working on that without sacrificing my line and length,” the talented bowler said.
