Bari seeks complete report on Shoaib before selectors meet
Chief selector Wasim Bari is hopeful of getting a complete report on pacer Shoaib Akhtar’s fitness ahead of the national selection committee’s meeting on June 8 in Lahore to finalise Pakistan’s 16-man squad for the forthcoming tour of England.
“I am expecting that everything would be clear about Shoaib’s fitness before our meeting,” Bari told this correspondent from Lahore on Monday. “We need to know everything about his condition before finalising the team for England,” added the former Test cricketer.
Pakistan’s cricket authorities are waiting for a ‘second opinion’ on Shoaib’s ankle scan from a South African expert. The report from the ankle expert might take up to a week, but Bari expects it to come sooner than that.
He is scheduled to chair a meeting of the selection committee this Thursday after which Pakistan would announce their squad for the Test series against England getting underway with the first match on July 13 at Lord’s.
