Another Battle of Naseem Ashraf

Written by Commoner on June 22nd, 2007   (458 views)

The fierce combat show between Naseem Ashraf and Senator Anwar Baig is going on steadily. On the side lines, another very interesting battle is going on. In this another battle, one opponent is Naseem Ashraf, and other is the group of veteran cricketers.

Newspapers, televisions and websites tell us time and again that the veteran old cricketers don’t like Naseem Ashraf much. Its hard to see this much dislike of any other chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Gone-by cricketers don’t spare any chance to criticize the current chairman and his policies.

Dr. Naseem Ashraf is also not giving in, and he is retaliating at full throttle with as much fire as he could muster. It is not a secret that many of the senior players like Javed Miandad, Intikhab Alam and some others wanted badly to coach the national team, but PCB was equally adamant to not give them another chance.

Since the PCB has announced vacancy in the media, senior players are livid with the administration of PCB. After the death of former Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer in Jamaica, most of the senior players were certain that after Bob, PCB would opt to select a Pakistani coach for the team, as the performance of the foreign coach wasn’t that satisfactory.

But PCB in the light of past experiences took a bold decision, and made it clear from the onset that the selection of coach will be done in a transparent and procedural way. They devised a proper employment procedure for the coach, announced the vacancy, and then after going through their documents and CVs, now conducting the interviews.

But Javed Miandad has also some valid points and they should be heeded. According to him, the PCB is adopting a hypocritical policy and the three potential candidates Dave Whatmore, Lawson and Richard even haven’t applied for the job, and PCB is desperate to appoint any one of them.

By keeping the air of Pakistani dressing room, a professional foreign coach would be better for the team. By the inclusion of a national team, there are very grave chances of the commencement of intrigue and politics in the team, which has badly tarnished the image and performance of the team.
